While most of Facebook is behind a login and password, a Facebook Fan Page is public. This helps market your company or organization by gaining visibility on the web and also through the search feature in Facebook. Having a fan page from an administrator point of view does have its advantages:

You don’t have to accept or reject friend requests
No flower bouquets or farming chores are posted
Information posts are made by the entity, not various administrators
All news has the look of one voice
I’ts easy to send updates to all fans (just like a group)
Bonus: You get free publicity every time a new person becomes a “fan”

Creating a Facebook fan page is one of the best ways for your business or brand to be seen online. Fan pages are public and well optimized in Google searches. According to Facebook Statistics, over 5.3 billion fans have been created with the use of Fan pages. Don’t worry, there is a niche for your business.

While many companies choose to create a basic page with their logo as the photo, this approach will not gain them visibility beyond the pages of Facebook. Some small businesses listed on Facebook don’t have their physical location listed, while potential customers typically want more than a phone number .

First things first – Start your fan page by going here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

The nice thing about a Fan page is it allows you to put information about your company, the location, website link, and offers a place where you can update all your fans. And if you know html code , the possibilities are unlimited with a fan page (more on that later).

Once you have reached over 100 fans, it’s easy to get your own identity with a branded URL. This will land you on page one of Google within a short period of time when someone searches for your business name. (give this a couple of months). To get your own company facebook URL, you must be the administrator and select a name that matches all your branding and advertising – you won’t be able to change it, so put some thought into it. Then go here to get your own identity: www.facebook.com/username

More to come …
